How do you choose a dance studio? It seems like they’re all pretty much the same, right? But realistically, each studio has a different philosophy, a different personality, different goals, different “energy” when you walk through the door. Check them out first. How do they treat you over the phone? How prompt are they at returning phone calls? How genuine are they in person? Take a ride and check out their facilities. Are they clean, neat, inviting and oriented to inspiring your child to dance? Spend a little time to find the one that fits your criteria best. And make sure you bring your child with you - they are usually the best judges when it comes to their activities.
Reasons to choose us!
1. We have been voted “#1 DANCE STUDIO” in the Tampa Bay Area for 4 years in a row. This is due to our neighborly customer service and professional standards.
2. BEAUTIFUL SPACIOUS STUDIOS
We have a great environment for kids wanting to move – we have 3600 square feet of beautiful space. Our studios are bright, clean and inviting.
3. FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT
Parents find us user-friendly and a great environment for their kids to learn. We enjoy our work and love sharing the art of dance with our families.
4. TEACHING STAFF
The most important thing about a dance studio is the teaching staff. Are the teachers qualified to teach? What are their backgrounds? Do they control the class or is it mayhem? Do they have an excellent grasp of the material they are teaching? Do they inspire the students? Do they give corrections or just let your child get a bad habit? Do they have an organized lesson plan with a goal in mind? Is your child really learning something positive? So many questions to think about! But these are all very important aspects of a good teacher and the most important thing to look for in a good studio.
5. FLOORS
Besides the teaching staff, the next most important feature of a dance studio is the flooring. Since dance is a very athletic activity, it is of utmost importance that the flooring "gives" when jumped on. Flooring which is laid directly over concrete such as linoleum or parquet is not suitable. It provides no absorbing qualities for your child's back, legs and knees and will eventually lead to injuries. A good teacher will not allow their students to dance on bad flooring. The type of flooring you want is either professional grade "sprung" or "floating" flooring. "Sprung" flooring is built on 2x4's which gives it a nice bouncing quality. "Floating" flooring is laid over padding and gives good shock absorbing attributes.
6. CLASS SIZES
Our younger classes do not exceed 10-12 children in each class. We feel that when there are too many children in a class, the teacher cannot effectively teach or address each child personally. Your child receives personal, intensive attention.
7. REFUND POLICIES
What happens if you suddenly find dance classes are not working out for your child? What if your child gets ill for a period of time? What if you realize that you just don’t like the studio? Make sure you know the refund policy of the dance studio. A good studio should understand the circumstances and work with you.
8. WATCHING CLASSES
So you don’t want to stand out in the rain or heat, peering into a window to see your child’s class? BB’s provides a large, comfortable waiting area with viewing windows into both studios. You can check on your child’s progress whenever you like.
9. WE PRODUCE 2 GREAT SHOWS A YEAR
Most dance studios have an end of year show, like a recital. Make sure you find out the studio’s fees on costumes, tickets and any other financial obligations. Some studios expect parents to sew and alter costumes along with paying high fees for the costumes. Some studios don’t let you keep the costumes. Make sure you fully understand your responsibilities with these things. For our Recital we sew and alter your child’s costumes if necessary, and you get to keep them after the show.
Our other professional production is "Fairies, Inc." and will be held over Valentine's Weekend 2009. This production showcases our Dance and Circus Arts training programs. Industry Professionals are flown in to perform major roles. "Fairies, Inc." is produced annually, so the costumes are the property of the studio and are used every year. Students are invited to audition for "Fairies, Inc." but participation is not required.
Please go to www.fairiesinc.org for more information.
Our shows have become very well known in the Tampa Bay Area. They are very professional and entertaining and are the kind of shows that people come to see regardless of having family members dancing in them. And we promise that no Dads fall asleep, either!
